No one is certain, but many things point to the fact that Christopher Columbus, the man who discovered America, was born on the island of Mallorca. It has always been an island of explorers and has been in a constant state of change since the beginning of the tourist industry. An international cultural climate has arisen over the past years, and the spectrum of contemporary art in particular has become broader and more diverse. An increasing number of galleries and art institutions are showing contemporary positions, and attracting a new audience that is particularly interested in culture. Each year in September, Palma celebrates the Nit de art, the “Night of art,” and thousands of visitors visit the galleries in the capital city. This year, the first “Art Cologne Palma de Mallorca” will take place at the same time.

JAM ART Mallorca will also commence in the third week of September – initiated by JAM The Book Scout. A curated art fair for explorers, because as a magazine dedicated to new publications, we also focus on contemporary art produced and exhibited by young international galleries and artists.

Indoor and outdoor, exhibition and fair, lounge and sculpture show – in order to create an unforgettable art experience with a southern flair, we have found the perfect location on the site of the Congress Palace des Pueblo Espanol.

In the heart of Palma and only a few minutes from the museum and gallery centre in the old town, the congress palace provides enough space for 35 galleries and an almost unlimited presentation area under open skies. The visitors can walk between the exhibition hall and the surrounding plazas – in an atmosphere that many are more familiar with from larger events such as the Venice Biennale or the documenta: here, a fair showing young talents will be presented in a smaller format.
